Within a twinkle of an eye. …so on my way back from the market some days back, just about a few meters away from the market. I was riding in a tricycle alongside two ladies when a bike rode past us in a jubilant spirit as those northern bikers do. Just a few seconds of him being ahead of us, we were confronted by the screeches of tires. Quickly fastening our eyes towards the direction of the screeches, we saw that the bike had been running over by a speeding car and was lain on the floor, in the middle of the street, when another speeding bike ran over the already fallen man, with his bike directly falling off on the already injured man’s head.
There he was on the floor, unable to lift himself, he helplessly laid there, all he could do was place his hands on his head, without screaming, but rolling, it was obvious he was in an unexplainable severe pain. I doubt he would survive that accident, but on second thought, he might, but if at all he does, he is likely going to suffer an everlasting head trauma I think, what am I saying, am I God?, I still believe in miracles and second chances, so he just might come out pretty well.
The truth is, when this guy stepped out of the house, when he bid his family good bye, I am sure the responses he got were “till you come” (sai ka dawo/ sai anjima) in Hausa. This guy never knew this misfortune would befall him, he never knew his fate for that day, else, I’m sure he would have been all tucked up in brand never would have dared to step an inch out of his house. All tjjat happened took him unawares and it all happened so fast, within a twinkle of an eye.
The scripture would say about the coming of Christ that it would be unannounced just like a thief in the night who never announces his coming but takes you aback.
What do we do then? The answer is to be prepared at all time for such unannounced comings. I am sure most of us in our homes have different weapons, be it sticks, cutlasses, and other defense tools we leave in hidden places but within reach at home to wade off uninvited guests, that attitude of preparedness is what should be adopted in serving God. We have to be prepared because we know not the hour or the day, it would happen so fast just like a dream, only that this time around, the dream becomes the reality as one never wakes up from it.
The Lord is so merciful to have provided all the guidelines we need in this journey of salvation, we have more than enough, we have been well equipped to take this on, in that No One has an excuse whatsoever as to why he/she was taken by surprise.
The essence of our salvation should not be lost due to our negligence, no, we have to be deliberate about our processes with Him, we need to be deliberate about our work and walk with Him. Do not be amongst the foolish virgins that never held extra oils for their burning lambs,
He that has an ear, let him hear.
