The Little Things. The inky darkness of the tunnel was suddenly illuminated, as the jaded miner trudged closer towards the underground portion of the rock which potentially could contain large mineral veins of untapped gold.
The atmosphere in the hollow tunnel was unbearably humid, and the air was decidedly stale, but still, the undaunted, prospecting miner sauntered deeper into the bowels of the subterranean cavern.
The contents of his water bottle was down to it’s last contents, and the bad air was grating on His overworked lungs. He wiped the sweat off his brow, and half-heartedly contemplated abandoning his mission.
But he had invested all he had.Time, money and reputation on striking a rich untapped source of gold…The only option left to him was success. He really could not turn back now.
He was so pre-occupied with his gloomy musings, that he didn’t see one of the numerous overlapping piece of granite rock that jutted from the ceiling of the cave, until when his hard hat scraped against the jutting rock.
He stumbled and fell listlessly on the musty ground. He lay on the ground for a few moments, gathering his wits and breath. Then he heaved himself up and swung the beam of his hard hat’s flashlight in order to examine the hateful piece of offending rock.
The beam of the flashlight struck the rock squarely, and the craggy facial features of the miner lightened up with a smile. His eyes twinkled merrily. His smile widened into a grin. He started laughing to himself. ‘Eureka!!’ He shouted boisterously. He had taken the risks and won. He had struck the mother lode! Completely delirious with excitement,he swung the beam of the flashlight in a half circle, and examined the rest of the jutting rocks that he had initially viewed as obstacles…and found out that they were all richly loaded with golden veins.
His obstacles became his salvation. And in that moment of triumph and exhilaration, all the torturous memories of his travails, pains, and disappointments were forgotten. This sounds familiar, right？
This story of the miner is a facsimile of life as we know it. We take unbelievable risks for the sole purpose of achieving success.
Sometimes we even go against the grain and compromise our Christian faith, in our quest for success and fulfillment, without realizing or taking note of the opportunities around us.
We often look for love, relationships, and fulfillment from afar, instead of devoting our resources into validating and strengthening our relationships with the people closest to us(Friends and family and God). Even Paul realized the importance of starting his preaching ministry on his people first(The Jews)-Romans 1:16.
Another lesson to be gleaned here is; It is good to have a dream and to take conscious steps towards realizing it. Only conscious efforts distinguish dreamers and achievers (Proverbs 13:4).
Let us imbibe all these few nuggets of truth(Proverbs1:5), as we set about radiating progress, positivity, love, and cheer from the seclusion of our closet to the world at large.
