Spiritual Spies. Spies are sly, cunning, and patient. They earn a living by camouflaging their true intents and burrowing deep into the confidence of their targets to lull their suspicions, before seeking for an opportune moment to strike.
Wars are won and lost due to the deliberate actions or inactions of spies. They would steal information from their enemies, relay it to their superiors, and also commit sabotage-all the while, appearing to be a friend.
In a lot of ways, the physical world mirrors the spiritual.
Our spirits fight a two-pronged battle against physical temptations and spiritual coldness. The Bible emphatically warns us of those spiritual spies-those wolves that come to slaughter the sheep when the shepherd is asleep or not strong enough (John 10:12).
In Song of Solomon 2:15; it says ”Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines;for our vines have tender grapes”
Foxes are not particularly fond of eating grapes, even though they are omnivorous.Instead, they prefer to gnaw on the tree trunk, dig out the roots, and bring down the whole tree.
Now,that is very scary!
The enemy of our faith is not fond of half-measures.He will enable those little foxes to infiltrate our lives, and bring down the whole structure of our spiritual life.
Those little foxes are the little compromises, such as white lies, infrequent prayers, nochalant attitude towards God’s word, and leaving our first love for God.
Any teaching or lifestyle that normalizes the idea of little sins under the guise of grace and ‘It dosen’t really matter’ should be methodically stamped out from our lives.
We have to make conscious efforts to follow the narrow path, and not the broad path that allows us ample space to move about with those ‘little foxes’.
Let us endeavor to get back to our former love for God.(Revelations 2:4,5).This can be made possible through prayer and obeying God’s precepts.
Remember that, the heavenly race is not to the swift, but to those that are diligent and dedicated to living by God’s command.
May the grace of the Lord help us. Amen! Yours in Christ.
