  • Boys Champions – raising a new generation of caring and emotionally intelligent men.
  • The DearMen – reimagining masculinity and justice through storytelling, dialogue, and leadership.
  • Project HOPE– advancing inclusive education, girls’ empowerment, and youth resilience.
  • Climate Justice Programs – including Clim8Guard, SentinelAI, the GREEN Justice Fellowship Program, and Climate Voters Campaigns.

Role Overview

The Executive Director is the chief executive and strategic leader of The People’s Project. This person will serve as the central force driving vision, strategy, fundraising, and organizational growth across all programs.

The Executive Director will provide operational excellence, lead fundraising efforts of at least $700,000 annually, and strengthen the structures that sustain long-term impact.

They will work closely with the Founder, Board of Trustees, and Departmental Heads to ensure The People’s Project remains financially strong, strategically focused, and globally relevant.

This is a leadership role for a visionary doer – someone who can think boldly, build systems, secure resources, and inspire people to act.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Lead the implementation of the organization’s five-year strategic plan.
  • Drive alignment across all TPP departments – Programs, Partnerships, Communications, Research, and Operations.
  • Translate vision into measurable plans, budgets, and impact indicators.
  • Represent the organization’s mission, ensuring all programs reflect the values of justice, empathy, and care.
  • Build and maintain a strong, motivated, and collaborative leadership team.

Fundraising and Resource Mobilization

  • Lead all fundraising activities and steward a minimum of $700,000 (USD) annually through a diversified fundraising pipeline.
  • Build and manage a structured donor and partner pipeline including foundations, corporations, bilateral funders, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and secure multi-year funding partnerships for TPP programs and innovation projects.
  • Oversee proposal development, grant management, donor reporting, and relationship stewardship.
  • Strengthen internal fundraising systems, CRM, and metrics to ensure transparency and accountability.

Program Oversight and Impact

  • Provide high-level oversight across flagship programs – Boys Champions, HOPE, and Social & Climate Justice Initiatives.
  • Guide program heads to design, execute, and scale projects with clear outcomes and strong community engagement.
  • Ensure all programs align with the organization’s strategic priorities and funding requirements.
  • Lead the organization’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) framework for impact measurement.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Oversee financial strategy, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure strong internal controls, compliance, and accountability systems.
  • Work with the Finance and Administration team to maintain accurate and transparent reporting.
  • Manage risks, ensure organizational stability, and plan for sustainable growth.

Team Leadership and Culture

  • Supervise and support department leads to deliver effectively on annual plans.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, inclusion, and shared accountability.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and invest in staff growth through continuous learning.
  • Build a workplace rooted in empathy, fairness, and performance.

External Relations and Advocacy

  • Serve as the public face and ambassador of The People’s Project.
  • Represent the organization in local, regional, and international forums.
  • Strengthen partnerships with government institutions, multilateral agencies, academic bodies, and grassroots movements.
  • Oversee media and communication strategies to ensure unified storytelling and brand integrity.

Governance and Reporting

  • Report directly to the Founder and Board of Trustees.
  • Support the Board with quarterly updates, strategy reviews, and governance documents.
  • Ensure legal compliance and ethical standards across all operations.
  • Build systems for transparency, reporting, and long-term institutional memory.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred in Management, International Development, or Nonprofit Leadership.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit, social enterprise, or impact-driven organizations.
  • Proven success in fundraising – especially in securing and managing large grants and partnerships.
  • Strong experience in strategic planning, budget management, and team leadership.
  • Deep understanding of social and climate justice, gender equality, and African development issues.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lead with empathy while maintaining focus on results.

Expected Deliverables and Performance Indicators

  1. Develop and maintain an active fundraising pipeline that delivers at least $700,000 annually in grants, partnerships, and donations.
  2. Strengthen the organizational structure and financial sustainability framework.
  3. Expand program reach across at least five African countries through partnerships and collaborations.
  4. Publish annual organizational reports with measurable impact outcomes.
  5. Position The People’s Project as a recognized thought leader in social and climate justice advocacy.

Performance Measurement:
The performance of the Executive Director will be assessed annually based on measurable organizational outcomes. Key indicators will include the total value of funds raised and managed each year (targeting at least $700,000 USD), the number and quality of funded partnerships established and sustained, and the percentage growth in program reach and visibility across Africa. Additional metrics will include staff retention and development rates, implementation of board-approved strategies within timelines, compliance with reporting and accountability standards, and measurable improvements in brand reputation, media presence, and stakeholder satisfaction. Success in this role will be defined by tangible growth in The People’s Project’s financial sustainability, global partnerships, and social impact footprint.
